یک سرزمین موعود نقدهای مثبت بسیاری در مجله نیویورک تایمز، واشنگتن پُست و گاردین به خود اختصاص داد و رکورد فروش کتاب همسر خود یعنی شدن را در روز اول شکست. نیویورک تایمز دو ماه قبل از انتشار این کتاب تضمین داد که یک سرزمین موعود بیشترین فروش را در میان تمامی کتاب ها در سال 2020 خواهد داشت. بر اساس وعده اوباما جلد دوم این کتاب به زودی منتشر خواهد شد. یک سرزمین موعود بسیار فراتر از یک کتاب سیاسی است.
