Uncle John Napoleon can be found everywhere in the world and in every society. Uncle John Napoleon is the story of a troubled man who, in the midst of his real-life failures, has made a Napoleon in his mind and thinks that the British are trying to destroy him. The book was so popular with Iranians that it sold millions of copies after its publication in 1973. The story of Uncle John Napoleon takes place in a large garden with three mansions: the house of the protagonist, his sister and his younger brother, who despite being retired from the army with a low rank, is called a colonel. This garden is ruled by Uncle John Napoleon and his paranoid illness. The author’s artistic characterization depicts different classes of society: the intelligence officer, the government official, the housewives, the doctor, the butcher, the flattering preacher, the maid, the vaccinator, and one or two Indians. All these people go to the garden, which is the scene of all the fights, conspiracies and funny troubles. Although Uncle John Napoleon’s novel criticizes society with its descriptions, it nevertheless shows the complexity, vitality, and resilience of Iranian culture and society. After the Iranian Revolution in 1979, both the serial and the book of My Uncle Napoleon were banned … The importance of My Uncle Napoleon’s novel is due to the fact that he is the founder of the comic genre in the Iranian novel and one of its leading works to this day. No humorous novel has been written yet for its credibility and charm, and Pezeshkzad deserves much praise for the credibility of this work among the creators of new literary forms. It should be noted, however, that the main characters in The Physician’s novel bear a striking resemblance to its foreign protagonist, Don Quixote. Uncle and his servant, like Don Quixote and Sancho / Sanko, both have similar illusions and seek to reconcile the outside world. But this resemblance does not diminish the values of the physician’s novel. About the Author: Iraj Pezeshkzad (born 1927) is an Iranian satirist of the second half of the twentieth century. He became best known for creating the novel “My Uncle Napoleon” and a character of the same name. After that, in 1976, the TV series My Uncle Napoleon was made by Nasser Taghvaei based on this novel. Also, the book My Uncle Napoleon in 1996 was translated into English by Dick Davis. He has skillfully transmitted the book in his translation
