Ludwig Heinrich Edler von Mises (1881–1973), known as Ludwig von Mises, was a philosopher, economist of the Austrian School, and a classical liberal. He became one of the leading figures of the Austrian school of economic thought and is best known for his work on praxeology. In 1940, fearing the occupation of Switzerland by Nazi Germany, he emigrated to the United States. He had a significant influence on the libertarian movement in the United States during the mid-20th century.
