The Marzbān-nāma is an early 13th-century Persian prose work. It consists of “various didactic stories and fables used as illustrations of morality and right conduct”, and belongs to the “mirror for princes” literary genre.

Al-Marzuban or Marzuban bin Rustam of Parim (Persian: مرزبان بن رستم پریمی), was the thirteenth ruler of the Bavand dynasty from 979 to 986. He was the son and successor of Rustam II. In some sources, his name was changed to Rustam ibn al-Marzuban, which caused confusion among the historians, and made them think that they were two people.

اسپهبد مرزبان بن رستم بن شروین بن رستم بن قارن از اسپهبدان باوندی مازندران بوده که نویسنده کتاب مرزباننامه نیز هست. وی در قرن چهارم هجری زندگی میکردهاست و اهل منطقه پریم از توابع دودانگه از شهرستان ساری بودهاست.
