The novel is notable for its modernist narrative structure, blending flashbacks with the present moment, and for its deep psychological insight into the protagonist’s deteriorating mind. Prince Ehtejab is often regarded as a critique of Iran’s aristocratic history and has been interpreted as an allegory of the political climate in pre-revolutionary Iran.
It was also adapted into a film in 1974 by director Bahman Farmanara, further cementing its place in Iranian cultural history.
