سان تزو، زاده ی سال 544 پیش از میلاد مسیح، نویسنده و اندیشمندی چینی بود. سان تزو در ایالت وو در کشور چین در نیروهای نظامی فعالیت می کرد. او همدوره ی اندیشمند بزرگ چینی، کنفوسیوس بود. سان تزو از خاندانی نجیب زاده بود که در تحولات تاریخی چین، جایگاه خود را از دست داده بودند. او برخلاف بسیاری از هم رسته های خود که به آموختن دانش می پرداختند، به دنیای سیاست و جنگ روی آورد. سان تزو که همیشه در آرزوی صلح و زندگی آرام بود، با پایان نبرد و پیروزی بر چو، ناگهان ناپدید شد.
